Rob "Robbie" Schremp (born July 1, 1986 in Fulton , New York ) is a former American ice hockey player who was active in the National Hockey League for the New York Islanders and Atlanta Thrashers . He also played in various top European leagues, including MODO Hockey , EC Red Bull Salzburg , Skellefteå AIK and EV Zug .

Career

At the age of 14, Rob Schremp began his career in 2000 in his hometown of Syracuse with the Syracuse Junior Crunch in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League . In 2001 he was voted Rookie of the Year and was his team's top scorer. After another season in the OPJHL, Schremp was selected in 2002 as the overall first in the OHL Bantam Draft by the Mississauga IceDogs . In his rookie season in the Ontario Hockey League he was again named Rookie of the Year in the form of the Emms Family Award . The next year he moved to the London Knights after three games and showed his potential here too. Therefore, the Edmonton Oilers selected him in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the first round in 25th place. The striker initially stayed in the OHL and won the J. Ross Robertson Cup with the Knights . As champions of the OHL, the team qualified for the tournament for the Memorial Cup . Here Schremp and his team reached the final and beat Sidney Crosby's team , the Rimouski Océanic . In the 2005/06 season , the American was awarded the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy as the top scorer of the OHL . With his team he lost to the Peterborough Petes in the play-off finals of the OHL .

In the 2006/07 season Schremp started his professional career with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League . On April 5, 2007 he made his debut in the National Hockey League against the Minnesota Wild . In the next season, the striker played for the farm team , the Springfield Falcons , in the AHL and came on two missions in the NHL. Schremp scored his first point for the Edmonton Oilers in the 2008/09 season on December 3, 2008 against the Dallas Stars . As in the previous year, he missed the play-offs with the Falcons.

In the 2009/10 season Schremp belonged exclusively to the NHL roster of the New York Islanders . In 44 games he scored seven goals, gave 18 assists and collected 25 points scorer. At the end of February 2011 he was put on the waiver list by the Islanders , from which the Atlanta Thrashers selected him. After the franchise was relocated to Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Jets decided not to offer him a qualification, so Schremp became available as a free agent in July 2011 . A month later he was hired by MODO Hockey from the Swedish Elitserien . For MODO he then completed over 60 appearances in the Elitserien, before moving to Dinamo Riga with goalkeeper Mikael Tellqvist in June .

In November 2012 Schremp was initially given to the HK Liepājas Metalurgs farm team , as he could not assert himself in the Dinamos KHL squad. He then moved to EC Red Bull Salzburg , where he scored a total of 36 scorer points in 26 games in the remainder of the season and was therefore able to recommend himself for a one-year contract with EV Zug , for which he played in the National League A from the 2013/14 season . In the summer of 2014 he signed with Skellefteå AIK from Svenska Hockeyligan , but could not convince there with only 20 points from 42 games in the 2014/15 season .

The American then returned to North America in October 2015, where he joined the Portland Pirates from the American Hockey League . He shone as the Pirates' top scorer in the 2015/16 season and signed a contract with the SCL Tigers from the National League A (NLA) in May 2016 . On January 31, 2017, Schremp and the SCL separated. One day later he was presented as a new addition to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

In October 2017 Schremp was signed again by EC Red Bull Salzburg. He ended his career in November 2018.
