John of Gaddesden

John of Gaddesden - also known as Johannes Anglicus - (* around 1280 in Little Gaddesden ; † 1348/49 or 1361) was an English physician, personal physician and theologian.

Life

He studied at Merton College , Oxford , where he lectured in the liberal arts, and in 1309 became the first doctor of medicine to complete his training in England. Around 1314 he wrote the book Rosa Medicinae . In 1320 he was rector in Chipping Norton ( Oxfordshire ); 1333 Canons of Chichester ; 1342 Prebendary ( beneficiary ) at St Paul's Cathedral .
