Josef Řezníček (born November 30, 1966 in Plzeň , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who played over 1000 games in the Czech extra league and Czechoslovak 1st division from 1983 to 2009 . He also played for the Füchse Sachsen in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Josef Řezníček began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with TJ Škoda Plzeň , for whose professional team he was active in the top Czechoslovak league from 1983 to 1992 . During his military service he played for the army club ASD Dukla Jihlava before returning to his hometown club in 1987. In the 1991/92 season the defender was with this runner-up in Czechoslovakia after the team was defeated by HC Dukla Trenčín in the playoff final .

Before the 1992/93 season he was signed by HC Olomouc before he was loaned to ES Weißwasser from the 2nd Bundesliga . The Czech played for Weißwasser, later Füchse Sachsen, for a total of four years, in 1994 he played for his ex-club HC Olomouc in the Extraliga and HPK Hämeenlinna in the Finnish SM-liiga . He finally ended the 1995/96 season at Chamonix Hockey Club in the French Ligue Magnus .

In the summer of 1996 Řezníček returned to his ex-club HC Plzeň, for which he was on the ice for the next seven years. After two seasons at HC Sparta Prague , the left shooter left the Czech capital again in 2003 and signed with Sparta's league rivals HC Energie Karlovy Vary . With this he was first runner-up in 2008 before he was able to return the favor with his team at HC Slavia Prague by winning the Czech championship for the previous year's final defeat in the 2008/09 season . He had previously played his 1000th game in the Czech Republic on December 14, 2008, making him the first Czech player to surpass this mark. Following this success, the former Czechoslovak national player ended his professional career at the age of 42.

In August 2009 he returned to the ice when he played his farewell game in Weißwasser in the ranks of the Lausitzer Füchse . In January 2011, Řezníček returned to Germany to play for the EC Kassel Huskies in the Hessenliga.

International

For Czechoslovakia Řezníček took part in the Junior World Championship in 1986 and the World Championship in 1991 .
