Radek Duda (born January 28, 1979 in Chodov , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who was most recently under contract at EHC Freiburg in the DEL2 .
Career
Radek Duda began his career in the youth team of HC Baník Sokolov before moving to the junior division of HC Sparta Prague in 1995. In the following two seasons he went on the ice for the Sparta Juniors and scored 48 points in 60 games in the Junior Extra League .
At the end of the 1996/97 season he was appointed to the Sparta Prague Extraliga squad and played a playoff game. In the following season he was a permanent member of the professional squad and played for Sparta in both the Extraliga and the European Hockey League . Because of the performances shown, he was selected during the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Calgary Flames as 192nd overall. Then Duda decided to move to North America to increase his chances of a career in the National Hockey League . He played two seasons in the Western Hockey League , one each with the Regina Pats and one with the Lethbridge Hurricanes . At the Hurricanes he was the top scorer of his team with 106 points and reached third place in the WHL 1999/2000 scorer list. In addition to his accuracy, he was also noticed by a high number of penalty minutes (193 penalty minutes in the 1999/2000 season).
Since he did not receive a contract from the Calgary Flames, he returned to Europe in 2000 and came to HC Keramika Plzeň via EC Kapfenberg and Sparta Prague . He stayed until the beginning of the 2002/03 season in Plzeň, before he was given up together with Ales Krátoška in exchange for Viktor Ujčík at HC Slavia Prague . During this season he was suspended for two league games after he had delivered a fist fight in the cabin with Martin Čakajík ( HC Liberec ). With his new team he won the Czech championship . His excellent performance, especially in the playoffs, earned him an invitation to participate in the 2003 World Cup and an employment contract with the Russian first division club Ak Bars Kazan . After a season in Russia he returned to Slavia. Until 2006 he played with a short break (in Plzeň) again relatively successfully at Slavia (44 scorer points in the 2005/06 season, 158 penalty minutes).
He came to Tampereen Ilves in 2006 via the Swedish first division team Malmö Redhawks , but returned to Slavia Prague in the summer of 2007 after an unsuccessful trial contract with Amur Khabarovsk . In December 2007, the SCL Tigers from the National League A signed before moving to EHC Basel in January . With Basel, Duda failed despite good personal performances in the league relegation at EHC Biel , so that the EHC was relegated to the NLB. Radek Duda then moved back to his homeland to the Czech first division club HC České Budějovice , for whom he plays in the Extraliga and the Champions Hockey League .
From 2009 to 2011 he was under contract with KLH Chomutov in the first division. For the 2011/12 season he moved to his former club HC Plzeň in 1929 in the Extraliga, after he had already spent part of the season there on loan the previous year.
In the 2012/13 season he played again for Chomutov and the Bílí Tygři Liberec before returning to Pilsen in the summer of 2013. From 2014 he was under contract with HC Energie Karlovy Vary before he left the club in December 2015 and was signed by HC Litvínov . There he helped the club to stay in the extra league with good performances in the relegation round and league qualification (17 games, 21 scorer points).
From August 2016 Duda was under contract with EHC Freiburg from the DEL2 .
International
In 1997 Ivan Huml took part in the European ice hockey championship with the Czech Republic's U18 team. A year later he was a member of the U20 selection at the U20 World Cup . For the men's selection he made his debut on April 4, 2002 in a test match against Switzerland and also took part in the following World Cup, where he finished fourth with the national team. In total, Duda has completed 32 international matches in which he scored twelve goals.
