Vladimír Kýhos (born June 23, 1956 in Chomutov , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and current coach .

Career

Vladimír Kýhos was born in Chomutov , but soon moved with his family to Litvínov , where he grew up. Kýhos comes from a family who loved ice hockey, his father Vladimír Kýhos senior was a defender at CHZ Litvínov and later worked as a coach for the same club. Vladimír Kýhos went through the youth department of the club and completed his first games for the men's team in the first division during the 1974/75 season. When he had to do his military service, he was delegated to the army sports club ASVŠ Dukla Trenčín , for which he made his debut in the 1st SNHL , the Slovak group of the second Czechoslovak division, in the 1975/76 season . This was followed by a season with VTJ Dukla Litoměřice . From 1977 to 1985 the attacker played for CHZ Litvínov in the first division. In total, he completed 348 games for his home club, in which he collected 284 points scorer.

The 1986/87 season he spent with his league rivals TJ Škoda Plzeň . For the 1988/89 season he moved to JoKP Joensuu from the I-divisioona , the second Finnish division. With his team, he immediately achieved promotion to the SM-liiga . In the following season , however, he had to accept the direct relegation with JoKP. He last played for the Finnish third division Hermes in the 1990/91 season before ending his active career at the age of 35.

Vladimír Kýhos took over at the end of the 1994/95 season as head coach at his ex-club HC Chemopetrol Litvínov from the Czech Extraliga, which was newly founded after the division of Czechoslovakia . From 1995 to 1997 he was an assistant coach in Litvínov. From 1997 to 1999 he was the head coach of KLH Chomutov from his hometown, which competed in the second Czech division . In the 1999/2000 season he worked in the same position at Chomutov's league rivals HC Mělník . He then spent a year as head coach in Chomutov and Litvínov before he was continuously responsible for the second division team of KLH Chomutov from 2002 to 2008.

During the 2007/08 season Kýhos moved within the 1st division to HC Kometa Brno , where he replaced Rostislav Čada . In the 2008/09 season he missed promotion with Kometa Brno, but the club management acquired the extra league license of HC Znojemští Orli . In the Extraliga, he was released at the beginning of the 2009/10 season and replaced by Pavel Pazourek . The 2010/11 season he began as coach of the second division HC Tábor , but signed on January 23, 2011 with his former club HC Litvínov from the extra league . In November of the same year he was released in Litvínov himself. In January 2012, however, he was hired as head coach by Extraliga rivals HC Energie Karlovy Vary .

From December 2015 Kýhos was head coach at Mountfield HK , then in the 2016/17 season in the same position at HC Oceláři Třinec .

Between November 2017 and October 2018 he was head coach of BK Mladá Boleslav .

International

For Czechoslovakia , Kýhos took part in the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , where he and his team won the silver medal.
