The 1st Slovenská národná hokejová liga , often also referred to as the 1st SNHL ( German 1st Slovak National Ice Hockey League ), together with the 1st Česká národní hokejová league, formed the second highest ice hockey league in Czechoslovakia , with the 1st SNHL consisted exclusively of teams from the Slovak part of the country. Between the second division and the first division , a promotion relegation was played at the end of the season to determine promoted and relegated teams.
history
From 1963, the second division of Czechoslovakia was played in four regional groups, with Group D being held as a purely Slovak group. The four group winners played two promoted teams in the promotion relegation.
In 1969, the league game operation was reformed and two separate game classes were established for the Czech and Slovak parts of Czechoslovakia. These were referred to as 1. ČNHL ( 1. Česká národní hokejová liga ) and 1. SNHL (1. Slovenská národná hokejová liga), with the latter emerging from Group D of the former 2. League. The champions of the 1st SNHL, the first two relay runners of the 1st ČNHL and the second with the highest points of the two relays qualified for the promotion round.
By 1970, the 1st SNHL and its predecessor, the season D of the 2nd division, was played with eight participants. Then the division was increased to twelve teams and a promotion relegation to the third division (Divize, 2nd SNHL) was created. In 1974, a direct relegation between the winner of the 1st SNHL and the bottom of the table in the 1st league was introduced, which was played out as the best-of-five series.
