The 1988/89 season of the 1st Slovenská národná hokejová liga (1st SNHL for short; German: 1st Slovak National Ice Hockey League) was the 20th edition of the shared second ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . Master of the league was Partizán Liptovský Mikuláš , who took part in the qualification for the 1st league together with runner-up Plastika Nitra . Since neither of the two clubs achieved promotion to this, ZŤS Martin and ZVL Skalica rose from bottom of the table in the third-class 2nd SNHL. Moved up from the third-class 2nd SNHL was Štart Spišská Nová Ves .

mode

The game mode provided for two double rounds of 22 games per team, i. H. Two home and two away games against every other participant. The total number of games per team was 44 games in the season. Then the table first and second qualified for the 1st league qualification. Depending on the number of promoted and relegated teams, 1 to 2 teams had to relegate from the 1st SNHL to the 2nd SNHL.

1st league qualification

Partizán Liptovský Mikuláš and Plastika Nitra took part in the qualification for the first division , but missed promotion to the first division with three and four wins respectively. Since Slovan Bratislava was also relegated from the 1st league, two teams from the 1st SNHL had to relegate to the 2nd SNHL in order to maintain the number of participants.
