Katsuya Eguchi
Katsuya Eguchi ( Japanese 江口 勝 也 , Eguchi Katsuya ; born April 7, 1965 in Fuchū ) is a Japanese video game developer . He has been with Nintendo since 1986 and heads a group in the Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development department . In this position he is responsible for extremely successful games such as Wii Sports and Animal Crossing . He also served as a hardware producer of the Wii U involved.
Act
Katsuya Eguchi was born in Fuchū (Tokyo) and studied at the "Computer Graphics" department of Japan Electronics College . There he received a degree. In 1986 he became an employee of the Japanese video game developer Nintendo.
Eguchi was assigned to the largest internal development department, Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development (EAD), at that time Research & Development 4, to developer Shigeru Miyamoto . Eguchi's first work included the level design of Super Mario Bros. 3 ( Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), 1988), Super Mario World ( SNES , 1990) and the new edition collection Super Mario All-Stars (SNES 1993).
In the near future, Eguchi worked closely with Miyamoto. His first project that he was a director was Star Fox (SNES, 1993); a successor, which emerged under his leadership, remained unpublished. He held the same role in Wave Race 64 ( N64 , 1996).
The Animal Crossing series developed by Takashi Tezuka celebrated its debut in 2001 under the title Dōbutsu no Mori (ど う ぶ つ の 森, literally translated "forest of animals") on the N64, game director was Eguchi. In 2004, the EAD was restructured so that it now consists of five separate and independent groups. Eguchi is the manager and producer of the second EAD Kyoto group. He and his group were responsible for other Animal Crossing titles. The latest offshoot, Animal Crossing: New Horizons , will be released on Nintendo Switch in 2020.
Eguchi and his team developed the mini-game collections Wii Sports and Wii Fit , which will be released in 2006 with the launch of the Nintendo Wii . Wii Sports became the best-selling video game of all time, with over 70 million units sold. As a result, Eguchi produced the successor Wii Sports Resort alongside Wii Music .
Katsuya Eguchi, although actually a game developer, is also the hardware manufacturer of Nintendo's home console, the Wii U , which was launched in late 2012. When developing the 3DS, Nintendo used a game developer to produce hardware for the first time, Hideki Konno .
