Eli Shukron

Eli Shukron is an Israeli archaeologist who has been excavating in and around Jerusalem with other scholars for the Israel Antiquities Authority since the 1990s .

Life

Shukron graduated from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He is currently the head of the politically controversial excavations in the so-called City of David outside the Old City of Jerusalem .

Known excavations

  • 2004: together with Ronny Reich : excavations at the pond of Siloam with finds from the time of the Second Temple .
  • 2007: together with Ronny Reich: sewers, by means of which the surface water and sewage were discharged from Jerusalem.
  • 2009: together with Ronny Reich: pilgrimage route that led to the second temple. This path is partially accessible today (2012).
  • 2012: together with Ronny Reich: Discovery of the remains of a bulla with the inscription seven / Bethlehem / for the king in the rubble of the city of David south of the city wall of the old city of Jerusalem . This inscription is the first mention of the city of Bethlehem from the time of the Temple of Solomon outside the Bible.
