Martin Frk (born October 5, 1993 in Pelhřimov ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League since July 2019 and for their farm team , the Ontario Reign , in the American Hockey League on the position of right winger plays.
Career
Frk spent his junior years in the youth department of HC Karlovy Vary until 2010 . After making selections in the KHL Junior Draft and CHL Import Draft , the 17-year-old striker decided to continue his career in North America in August 2010. He joined the Halifax Mooseheads from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , who had chosen him in the draft. The Czech spent three seasons there. After a successful rookie season with 50 points in 62 games, he only played 34 games the following year due to injury. Nevertheless, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2012 in the second round in 49th position by the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League . However, Frk remained in the QMJHL for another year and led the Mooseheads together with Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon to both winning the Coupe du Président and winning the traditional Memorial Cup .
The right wing attacker then switched to the Detroit Red Wings organization in the summer of 2013, after they had provided him with an NHL entry contract in July of the previous year . Frk spent the first two seasons in the professional field with the farm teams of the Red Wings, the Toledo Walleye from the ECHL and the Grand Rapids Griffins from the American Hockey League . For the 2015/16 season he then managed to establish himself permanently with the Griffins. Shortly before the start of the 2016/17 season , Detroit's management decided that Frk should continue to play in the AHL. For this, however, he had to pass the waiver , from where the league competitor Carolina Hurricanes selected him. The striker made his NHL debut there at the beginning of the season. After two missions for the Hurricanes, at the end of October they also tried to send Frk to the Charlotte Checkers via the Waiver in the AHL . However, the Detroit Red Wings took the chance and brought the striker back into their franchise , eventually reassigning him to the Grand Rapids Griffins. With the Griffins, the Czech won the AHL playoffs for the Calder Cup at the end of the season .
With the start of the 2017/18 season, Frk established himself in the Red Wings squad and scored 25 points scorer in 68 games in his first NHL season. He was unable to defend this in the following year and then joined the Los Angeles Kings free agent in July 2019 . There he was mainly used at the Ontario Reign in the AHL and, as part of the AHL All-Star Classic 2020, fired the hardest shot in ice hockey history at 175.7 km / h that has been measured to date.
International
For his home country, Frk played at the U18 Junior World Championships in 2010 and 2011 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 2011 and 2013 . The striker played six games for the team in all four tournaments. His best result was seven scorer points at the U18 Junior World Championship 2010. In total, he collected 22 scorer points in 24 World Cup games. He finished the 2011 U20 World Youth Championship as the player with the most penalty minutes.
