Lukáš Mensator (born August 18, 1984 in Sokolov , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey goalkeeper who was most recently under contract with EHC Freiburg in the DEL2 .

Career

Lukáš Mensator began his career as an ice hockey player at the age of seven in the youth team of HC Karlovy Vary , for whom he was active in the U18 and U20 extra leagues until 2002. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the third round as a total of 83rd player by the Vancouver Canucks . The goalkeeper then played for two years in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League from 2002 to 2004 , where he was between the posts for the Ottawa 67’s . With the 67's he reached the final of the J. Ross Robertson Cup in 2003 , but his team failed at the Kitchener Rangers . In 2004 he returned to the Czech Republic and has since played for his home club in the Extraliga .

At the end of the 2004/05 season he was loaned to BK Mladá Boleslav and reached the playoff semifinals of the 1st division with this . From the 2007/08 season he was the goalkeeper of Karlovy Vary and in 2008 reached the Czech runner-up. A year later he became Czech champion with energy when he and his teammates defeated HC Slavia Prague in the best-of-seven series with 4-2 wins. After the season, Mensator was named playoff MVP and goalkeeper of the year .

International

For the Czech Republic Mensator took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in 2002 , the U20 Junior World Championship in 2003 and 2004 . From 2007 he was a member of the men's squad for friendly matches and matches on the Euro Hockey Tour , but it wasn't until 2009 that he was nominated for his first men's world championship .
