Kai Nurminen (born March 29, 1969 in Turku ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who has played for the Los Angeles Kings and Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League and TPS Turku and HPK Hämeenlinna in the SM-liiga was active.

Career

Kai Nurminen began his career as a hockey player in 1992 with TPS Turku in the SM-liiga , for which he had already played in his youth. Nurminen became Finnish champion for the first time in his rookie year . After the runner-up in the following season, the attacker switched to TPS league rivals HPK Hämeenlinna , which he left after only one year to play for HV 71 Jönköping in the Swedish Elitserien . In the 1996 NHL Entry Draft , the Finn was finally selected in the eighth round as a total of 193rd player by the Los Angeles Kings , for whom he scored 27 scorer points in 67 games in the 1996/97 season , including 16 goals. Although Nurminen was regularly on the ice for Los Angeles, he returned to Europe in 1997, where he was on the ice for Västra Frölunda from Sweden and Jokerit Helsinki from Finland.

After a season at HC Davos in the Swiss National League A , Nurminen was Finnish champion for the second time with TPS Turku in 2000 and reached third place in the European Hockey League with his team . Before the 2000/01 season , the winger ventured a second time into the NHL, but only came twice for the Minnesota Wild and spent most of the season with their farm team , the Cleveland Lumberjacks from the International Hockey League . After the season he returned one more time to TPS, for which he was active in the SM-liiga until 2007 and with which he was runner-up in 2004 for the second time. After a year at HPK Hämeenlinna, Nurminen was signed by Herlev Hornets from the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen before the 2008/09 season , where he ended his career in December 2008.

International

For Finland Nurminen took part in the A-World Championships in 1996 and 1997 , as well as the World Cup of Hockey in 1996 .
