Mika Antero Alatalo (born June 11, 1971 in Oulu ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player and current coach .
Career
Mika Alatalo began his career as a hockey player at KooKoo Kouvola , for which he was active in the SM-liiga from 1988 to 1990 . He was then selected in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft in the tenth round as a total of 203 players from the Winnipeg Jets , for which he never played. Instead, the attacker ran for another four years in his Finnish homeland for Lukko Rauma and was elected to the all-star team of the SM-liiga in the 1993/94 season. This was followed by two years at their league rivals TPS Turku , with whom Alatalo was champion in 1995 and runner-up in 1996. The left shooter then moved to the current Swedish champion Luleå HF in the Elitserien . With his new team he reached the final again in the 1996/97 season, which they lost.
After Alatalo was again champion with Turku in the 1998/99 season, he played for two years in the National Hockey League for the Phoenix Coyotes , the successor franchise to the Winnipeg Jets, which had owned the rights to the Finn since July 1, 1996. In the summer of 2001 he received a contract with TPS Turku for the third time in his career, with which he was runner-up again in 2004. For the 2007/08 season the Olympians went from 1994 for the second time to other European countries, where he worked for the HC Thurgau in the Swiss National League B aground. In the 2008/09 season Alatalo was on the ice for the Herlev IC in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen . After financial difficulties at Herlev IC, he moved to HC Pustertal in Italy, where he ended his active career at the end of the season.
In the 2010/11 season Alatalo worked as an assistant coach at his ex-club TPS Turku in the SM-liiga.
