The Shjetman Reef is an island that has been sighted several times in the Pacific Ocean , but whose existence is considered unlikely ( Phantom Island ).

The first sighting took place on October 19, 1868 by Captain Ole Andreas Schjetman from the Norwegian ship Anna at 16 ° 8 'N and 178 ° 58' W. He reported that the island was about 3 km long and about 1 km wide. Later attempts to find the island again usually failed. In 1990 a sailor from Hawaii reported a sighting that could not be repeated on an expedition in 2006.
