Sigmund Suttner (born February 7, 1953 in Bad Tölz ) is a former German ice hockey goalkeeper .

Career

Sigmund Suttner began his career in the junior division of SC Reichersbeuern . From there he switched to the offspring of EC Bad Tölz , for whose men's team he played from 1972 to 1976. From 1976 he played for EV Landshut and for EC Deilinghofen for two years each , before he was active for the Cologne EC from 1980 to 1983 . In 1982 he took part in the Spengler Cup with the KEC . In 1983 his contract with the KEC expired and Suttner moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga ERC Freiburg . In 1984 the ERCF went bankrupt and Suttner was initially without a club before accepting an offer from EHC Arosa for two months . After these two months, which were very positive for him in terms of sport, he moved to BSC Preussen in December 1983 .

From 1986 he played one season each with EV Landshut, SC Riessersee , ECD Sauerland and EHC Freiburg and ended his career in 1990. Suttner stayed in Breisgau even after his sports career.

Internationally, he played for the German national ice hockey team at the World Ice Hockey Championships in 1977 , 1979 and at the Winter Olympic Games 1980 . On April 15, 1979 he held 96 shots on goal against the Soviet Union in a World Cup match and has since been known as the Hero of Moscow .
