Aigars Cipruss (born January 12, 1972 in Riga ) is a former Latvian ice hockey player who has been working as a coach since 2010 and was most recently assistant coach at Dinamo Riga in the Continental Hockey League .
Career
Aigars Cipruss began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Pardaugava Riga , for whose professional team he played in the Vysschaya League , the highest Soviet league, from 1990 to 1992 , and then for two years in its successor, the International Hockey League , was active. The center then went to North America, where he played for the Atlanta Knights , Grand Rapids Griffins and Rafales de Québec in the International Hockey League , the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League , the Nashville Knights in the ECHL and the Muskegon over the next three years Fury played in the Colonial Hockey League .
From 1997 to 2003 Cipruss was in the Finnish SM-liiga on the ice, but did not stay with any team for a long period of time. In Finland he played for Lukko Rauma , Pelicans Lahti , Jokerit Helsinki , HIFK Helsinki and finally SaiPa Lappeenranta . For the 2003/04 season he joined the HK Spartak Moscow from the Wysschaja Liga , the second Russian division. With the capital club he immediately achieved promotion to the super league , in which he scored five goals and nine assists in 56 games in the 2004/05 season . For the 2005/06 season the Latvian returned to his hometown and took part in the game operations of the Belarusian extra league with HK Riga 2000 . He started the 2006/07 season at DHK Latgale in the Latvian ice hockey league , but after only three games he joined Asiago Hockey from the Italian A1 series .
Cipruss spent the 2007/08 season with EfB Ishockey in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen . For the following season he received a contract with Dinamo Riga , for which he scored a goal and an assist in a total of 35 games in the newly founded Continental Hockey League . At the same time he was on the ice in 18 games for his ex-club HK Riga 2000 in the Belarusian extra league. For the 2009/10 season , the 2006 Olympic participant was signed by HK Ozolnieki / Monarhs , for whom he played in the Latvian ice hockey league until 2013.
International
For Latvia , Cipruss took part in the C world championships in 1993 , the B world championships in 1994 and the A world championships in 1997 , 1998 , 1999 , 2000 , 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 and 2009 . He was also in his country's squad at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
