Jeff Toms (born June 4, 1974 in Swift Current , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . He played in the National League A for the EHC Basel , HC Ambrì-Piotta , the SCL Tigers and the Genève-Servette HC . He played in the position of striker, Toms ended his career in 2011.

Toms was drafted by the New Jersey Devils on lap nine in 1992 at position 210 . He has played in the NHL for the Tampa Bay Lightning , Washington Capitals , New York Islanders , New York Rangers , Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Panthers .

Career

Jeff Toms played as a junior for Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League . He was active from 1991 to 1994 for the team with which Toms won the 1992 OHL championship, the J. Ross Robertson Cup , and the 1993 Memorial Cup . During this time he was selected in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils in the ninth round at position 210, but before his debut in the National Hockey League he was transferred to the Tampa Bay Lightning . In the 1995/96 season he had his first NHL appearance for the Lightning, the rest of the season he played with the Atlanta Knights in the International Hockey League . A season later he came to 34 NHL games for the Tampa Bay Lightning, with Jeff Toms listed two goals, eight assists and ten penalty minutes in his statistics. In autumn 1997, it committed the Washington Capitals from the waiver . There Toms was used regularly, but did not make his breakthrough as a regular player.

For the 2000/01 season he moved to the New York Islanders as a free agent . Other NHL stations for Toms until 2003 were the New York Rangers , Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Panthers . When he got no new NHL contract, Toms moved to Russia for the 2003/04 season to Severstal Tscherepowez . He finished the same season at EHC Basel in National League A , with which he was relegated to National League B at the end of the season. For the next six years he also played in Switzerland, three seasons each with HC Ambrì-Piotta and the SCL Tigers . From 2009 to 2011, there were two seasons at Genève-Servette HC under coach Chris McSorley before Jeff Toms ended his career.
