Karl Anton Hudetz (born March 29, 1890 in Schwadorf near Vienna ; † February 16, 1977 in Wiesent near Regensburg ) was a German painter and artist who was mainly active in Eastern Bavaria.

Life

Karl Anton Hudetz was born in Schwadorf near Vienna in 1890. His ancestors had Saxon roots. He spent his apprenticeship in the applied enamel factory in Vienna. From 1910 to 1914 Hudetz worked in an enamel painting in the jewelry city of Pforzheim. After this time he moved back to Vienna, where he earned his living as a freelance artist. At the end of the First World War he was called up to the “Landsturm ohne Waffen” in Passau in 1918 and experienced the end of the war there. In Passau he worked as an artist for the next twenty years, where he worked with Georg Philipp Wörlen and Alfred Kubin . He had a close artist friendship with Kubin. In 1938 he moved with his wife, the artist Karoline Hudetz (née Weiss), to Wiesent in the Regensburg district . Until his death in 1977, Hudetz lived there in a large apartment with a tower in Wiesent Castle . His widow Karoline moved to Nuremberg to live with her nephew in 1989 for reasons of age. The tower was then converted into a memorial and museum.

Hudetz Tower

In his honor, the tower of Wiesent Castle was renamed the Hudetz Tower and today houses a museum with numerous works by Karl Anton Hudetz. The association "Hudetz Förderkreis e.V." was founded to maintain the memorial. The tower is now a well-known sight in the area around Regensburg and Straubing. There are special exhibitions by regional and national artists at regular intervals. Small concerts also take place in the rooms. The tower is open every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
