Joshua "Josh" Hennessy (born February 7, 1985 in Brockton , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 34 games for the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League between 2001 and 2018 has contested on the position of the center . In addition, he played 490 games in the American Hockey League and spent another seven seasons in Europe, where he celebrated the greatest success of his career in 2015 in the service of the Växjö Lakers by winning the Swedish championship .
Career
The 1.83 m tall center began his professional career with the Remparts de Québec in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec before he was selected in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft as 43rd in the second round by the San Jose Sharks . The left shooter played with the Remparts as host in the final tournament of the Memorial Cup 2003, but the team failed after three defeats in the preliminary round.
Until 2005, the American, who quickly developed into a leading player at the Remparts by learning the French language and was named team captain in his third season in the LHJMQ , played in Québec and then moved to the Cleveland Barons for the 2005/06 season , the farm team for the San Jose Sharks in the American Hockey League . The attacker played as one of only two players in all games of the regular season and was voted the team's internal “ Rookie of the Year ” with 63 points .
About the Chicago Blackhawks Hennessy was finally transferred to the Ottawa Senators on July 9, 2006 in a swap deal with players from all three franchises , who previously used him mainly with the Binghamton Senators in the AHL.
For the 2010/11 season Hennessy moved to HC Lugano and signed a contract for one season. On July 5, 2011, the striker received a one-year contract with the Boston Bruins , but was mostly used by the Providence Bruins in the AHL. In August 2012, Hennessy was committed by Vityas Chekhov from the Continental Hockey League . The American spent two seasons there before moving back to Switzerland at the end of the 2013/14 season and strengthening the Kloten Flyers in the National League A playoffs . For the 2014/15 season, the striker signed a contract with Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk from the KHL, before moving again within Europe after 27 appearances. From late December 2014 to spring 2017, Hennessy was a member of the Växjö Lakers from the Svenska Hockeyligan . He celebrated his greatest career success with the team in the 2014/15 season by winning the Swedish championship .
In the summer of 2017, he returned to the United States after six years abroad and played his last professional season for his ex-club Providence Bruins in the AHL. After the 2017/18 season , the 33-year-old declared his active career over.
