Career
As an 18-year-old James Black played his first season in the Junior Western Hockey League for the Portland Winter Hawks . After he was drawn in the NHL Entry Draft in 1989 in the fifth round and a total of 94th place by the Hartford Whalers , he moved directly into the organization of this NHL franchise. The left shooter also played 78 NHL games for Hartford, the Minnesota North Stars , the Dallas Stars , the Buffalo Sabers and the Chicago Blackhawks during this time .
In Chicago he matured in 1996 to become a regular in the best league in the world. It was not until the 2001/02 season that he was permanently used again in the American Hockey League , which prompted him to move to Europe after only one year.
He hired the first EV train in the National League A in. There he could only play 18 games in the 2002/03 season and so he came to Germany a year later. He signed a contract with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League , where he scored 44 scorer points in 50 games. He ended his career in 2004/05 with sixteen games for the HC Bolzano in the Italian Serie A .
