Kimmo Taneli Rintanen (born August 7, 1973 in Rauma ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player and coach who played for the Kloten Flyers and HC Lugano in the National League A during his active career .

Career

Rintanen began his career in 1990 in the Finnish league with Lukko Rauma , for which he was active until 1994. He then moved to their league rivals TPS Turku , with whom he became Finnish champion for the first time in 1995 and vice-champion in 1996 and 1997. In addition, Rintanen won the European Hockey League with Turku in 1997 . For the 1998/99 season, Rintanen joined Jokerit Helsinki , which he left after a year to return to Turku. With TPS he was again champion in 2000 and 2001, before he moved to the Kloten Flyers from the Swiss National League A in 2001 , for which he was on the ice for ten years.

The Kloten Flyers announced on November 29, 2010 that they would not renew their contract with Rintanen. Kimmo Rintanen is the highest paid player to ever play for the Flyers. In January 2011 he was signed by HC Lugano for the 2011/12 season.

In February 2013 Rintanen returned to the Kloten Flyers and took over the position of assistant coach alongside head coach Felix Hollenstein . In December 2014, he and Hollenstein were released. He then returned to Finland and became an assistant coach at TPS Turku. He held this position until 2018.

International

For Finland , Rintanen took part in the U20 Junior World Championships in 1993 and the A World Championships from 1998 to 2004. He was also in Finland's squad at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano . In total, Rintanen completed 155 games for the national team, in which he scored 35 goals.
