Bruno Zarrillo (born September 5, 1966 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a former Italo - Canadian ice hockey player who was active during his career for the Kölner Haie and the Nürnberg Ice Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League . He also took part in a total of nine world championships with the Italian national team , as well as the 1992 and 1994 Olympic Games .
Career
As a player
Zarrillo began his career in 1986 in the Canadian Junior League Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League with the River East Royal Knights . There he was one of the best scorers in the league in his first season and was able to improve again the following year. In the two years that he played for the Royal Knights, he scored 277 points in 77 games. In the summer of 1989 he moved to the Italian Serie A for HC Bozen , with which he won the championship in 1990, 1995 and 1996 .
After he had been one of the top scorers in the A1 series at HC Bozen for a number of years, the then 30-year-old became aware of some clubs from stronger European leagues. In the summer of 1996 he received a contract with the Cologne Sharks . In Cologne he was the top scorer of the 1996/97 season with 74 points in 48 games . In the playoffs, the Haie were eliminated in the first round, so that Zarillo ended the season at SC Bern in the highest Swiss ice hockey league , the National League A. However, he completed only two games for the Mutzen in the playoffs of the NLA, but became Swiss champions with the team .
In the following six years he continued to play for the Haie before he left the club at the end of the 2000/01 season and moved within the league to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers , with whom he signed a one-year contract that was ultimately not renewed . Zarrillo then returned to Switzerland, where he went on the ice for HC Sierre in the National League B. There the right-shooter was able to score 13 times in nine games in which he was used.
Finally, in the summer of 2003, he signed a contract with HC Milano Vipers , with which he won the Italian championship in 2004. Bruno Zarrillo then ended his active ice hockey career at the age of 37.
As a trainer
Later, Zarrillo tried his hand at hockey coaching, so he trained in the 2004/05 season, immediately after his resignation as a player, at HC Bozen, for which he was already a player. A season later, he was in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League with the Winnipeg Saints on the gang.
