Mark David Beaufait (born May 13, 1970 in Royal Oak , Michigan ) is a former American ice hockey player who played for the Eisbären Berlin in the German Ice Hockey League from 2002 until the end of his career in 2009 and became a four-time German ice hockey champion with them.
Player career
The 1.75 m tall striker began his career in 1988 on the Northern Michigan University team in the NCAA game operations , with which he won the 1991 national college championship. When NHL Supplemental Draft in 1991 he was finally seventh of the San Jose Sharks selected ( drafted ) and came in the 1992/93 season with the Kansas City Blades , the IHL - farm team of the Sharks, is used. In addition, the right-shooter completed his first and last five appearances in the National Hockey League this season, where he also scored a goal.
For the 1993/94 season Beaufait moved within the IHL to the San Diego Gulls , after only one year an engagement with the Orlando Solar Bears followed , with whom he reached the IHL Turner Cup final in 1996 , but there with 0: 4 games lost to the Utah Grizzlies . In the last IHL season in 2001, however, he managed to win the Turner Cup with the Solar Bears, after the league was dissolved, the American moved to the Houston Eros in the American Hockey League , which he headed towards after only one season Left Berlin.
With the Eisbären, the center won the German ice hockey championship twice in a row in 2005 and 2005/06 , plus the lost play-off final in 2004 against the Frankfurt Lions . In his first season in Berlin, Mark Beaufait was top scorer of the DEL after the regular season with 54 points. After the regular season of the 2006/07 season he was the second best assists in the DEL with 40 assists behind David McLlwain from Cologne . In 2009 the attacker with the Eisbären Berlin became German champions for the fourth time in his career and then announced that he would be retired. In honor of his services to the polar bears, Beaufait's shirt number 19 was pulled under the hall roof on January 2, 2011 and no longer awarded within the club.
