Career
Robert Reichel began his career in the Czech Republic at CHZ Litvínov , where he was able to convince as a center forward. During the 1989 NHL Entry Draft , those in charge of the Calgary Flames secured his rights when they selected him in the fourth round in a total of 70th position. A year later, in the summer of 1990, Reichel moved to the National Hockey League for the Flames.
He was able to improve from year to year and reached in his fourth season in the NHL 93 scorer points in 83 completed league games. The start of the NHL season was delayed due to a lockout , which is why Robert Reichel signed a contract with the Frankfurt Lions in Germany . He played there until January 1995, then the NHL season began. For the 1995/96 season Reichel went back to Frankfurt and played one season in the German Ice Hockey League . In 1996 he returned to Calgary. In March 1997 he was transferred to the New York Islanders .
The time in New York was not particularly positive. Although he achieved a constant score of over 60 points, he could never reach the playoffs with the team. At the 1998 Winter Olympics , he won the gold medal with the Czech team. In March 1999 he was transferred to the Phoenix Coyotes , where he played the season to the end, but then he returned to his Czech homeland and was there for two years for his old club CHZ Litvínov.
For the 2001/02 season, the management of the Phoenix Coyotes transferred the rights to Robert Reichel to the Toronto Maple Leafs , who then returned to the NHL. Until the summer of 2004 he played in Toronto . The 2004/05 season had to be completely canceled due to a players' strike. The offensive player then signed a contract with his hometown club HC Litvínov, for which he went on the ice as team captain until 2010 .
On December 28, 2007, Reichel scored the 1-0 after a 2:39 minute pass from Peter Jansky when his HC Litvínov played against HC Slavia Prague . It was his 250th goal in the extra league and national team.
After the 2009/10 season he ended his career and became the new head coach of his home club. On January 22, 2011, he resigned from this post. In August 2011 he was appointed head coach of the Czech U16 national team. In the 2014/15 season he was in charge of the U17 and the U18 and U19 national teams in the 2015/16 season.
