Martin Reichel (born November 7, 1973 in Most , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech - German ice hockey player . He is the brother of the Czech ice hockey player Robert Reichel and a member of the "Hall of Fame" of German ice hockey .

Career

Martin Reichel began his career in 1990 at EHC Freiburg in the 1st Bundesliga . In his first years as a professional, he already proved that he is not an outstanding, but a solid scorer, which is why he was selected in the second round of the Edmonton Oilers in the second round at position 37 in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft . In 1993 the license was withdrawn from the EHC Freiburg and the team had to relegate to the Regionalliga Süd .

Reichel wanted to stay in the top German league and joined the Starbulls Rosenheim, with whom he was active in the German ice hockey league . In Rosenheim , the German-Czech was one of the strikers with the highest points in his team. His most successful season was the 1995/96 season , when he was able to achieve 48 scorer points in a total of 54 league games. After four years he left Rosenheim and joined the Nürnberg Ice Tigers . With Nuremberg he was able to move into the final of the playoffs in 1999 , but lost there to the Adler Mannheim .

In the following years he was unable to build on this success and in 2003 he switched to the Frankfurt Lions . In his first season he was able to win the German championship with the Lions after a 3-1 final victory after games against the Eisbären Berlin . Reichel, who scored 27 times in the main round in 52 completed games and scored a goal in four games in the subsequent play-offs, played a not insignificant role in this success. In 2004/05 the National Hockey League paused due to a players strike, which is why many players from North America came to Europe. The Lions wanted to defend the title with NHL veterans Stéphane Robidas and Doug Weight , but they failed in the semifinals.

In the 2005/06 season Reichel, meanwhile alternative captain in Frankfurt, narrowly missed the playoffs with the Lions. In the DEL he has played a total of 638 games since 1994, in which he scored 361 points (128 goals / 233 assists) and collected 431 penalty minutes. Before the start of the 2006/07 season he was in third place in the list of DEL record players behind the still active Mirko Lüdemann and Andreas Renz . In the all-time scorer ranking, he was in 16th place.

In the summer of 2008, Lions officials did not renew his expiring contract. The offensive player, however, received a contract offer from Starbulls Rosenheim a little later, for which he was already active between 1993 and 1997. Reichel then moved to Rosenheim. With the Starbulls he reached the semi-finals of the Oberliga Süd play-offs, which they lost with 1: 3 defeats against ESV Kaufbeuren .

In 2010 he won the Oberliga championship with the Starbulls with three wins in the playoff final against EC Peiting . After the 2009/2010 season he ended his active career and was assistant coach at Starbulls Rosenheim from 2012 to 2015 . Since then he has been employed in the youth division of the same club.

In March 2017 Reichel was inducted into the "Hall of Fame" of German ice hockey .

International

Reichel was nominated for the first time in 1994 for the German national team , with which he took part in the World Cup in Italy in the same year . This was followed by eight other participations in various world championships and one nomination for the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City . In total, the left shooter played 165 international A matches, in which he was able to achieve 17 points scorer.
