World Consumer Day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World Consumer Rights Day (English: World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) ) is an action of the international consumer organization Consumers International , where on consumer issues is made public attention. It has been celebrated annually on March 15th since 1983 . World Consumer Day goes back to US President John F. Kennedy , who proclaimed three basic consumer rights before the United States Congress on March 15, 1962 .

Kennedy called

  • the right to be protected from fraudulent or misleading advertising and labeling,
  • the right to be protected from dangerous or ineffective drugs,
  • the right to choose from a variety of products at fair market prices.

On World Consumer Day 2007, the German consumer advice centers provided information on the subject of "Insurance and Finance". In 2008 they asked the population to take part in the “Save electricity. Protect your account and the climate ”. For years, consumer advice centers have kept an eye on the so-called “gray capital market” and regularly warn investors about dubious offers. In 2012 the motto of the World Consumer Day was “Our money, our rights”. Among other things, stricter rules for financial intermediaries were called for. The focus of the “Smart New Consumer World?” Event organized by the Federation of German Consumer Organizations on March 13, 2014 in Berlin was the question of what digitalization will mean for consumers in the future. The opportunities and risks were examined using the example of networked transport systems and eHealth.

Since 1999, the European Economic and Social Committee has organized European Consumer Day around March 15 of each year . In 2007 the motto was “Financial Services in the EU”. In 2008 “judicial and extrajudicial remedies for consumers” were discussed.
