Hurricane glass

A hurricane glass is a tall, bulbous, curved drinking glass with a short stem that is used to serve cocktails . It is particularly suitable for coladas , batidas and other tropical or Caribbean fancy drinks such as the Hurricane cocktail of the same name . Names for similar stemmed glasses with a curved glass body, which are sometimes used synonymously, are squall glass (this is usually a bit more compact and bulbous), squall hurricane or generally fancy glass .

The term "hurricane" ( English for hurricane , tropical cyclone ) is reminiscent of the often curved glass tube in petroleum lamps , which are also called hurricane lamps in English . The glass protects the flame from the wind so that the lamps burn even in a storm.

Typically, hurricane glasses only have a very short, thick stem, the glass body is slender, curved and opens upwards in the shape of a tulip. Hurricane glasses are available in different sizes, common shapes include approx. 44 to 70 cl .
