Logan Shaw (born October 5, 1992 in Glace Bay , Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League since November 2018 and at the same time for their farm team, the Manitoba Moose , in American Hockey League plays in the position of defender .
Career
youth
Logan Shaw was born in Glace Bay and began playing ice hockey at the age of three. In his youth he played for the Cape Breton Tradesmen in nearby Sydney , before he was selected in the Entry Draft of the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ) in 12th position by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and thus continues to be in his immediate vicinity Home was active. As a rookie , Shaw completed 49 games for the Screaming Eagles, in which he came up with eight scorer points . He also represented the Canada Atlantic team at the 2009 World U-17 Hockey Challenge .
In the following seasons, the attacker steadily increased his personal statistics, although the team played a sportingly disappointing season in his draft year and only had 18 wins in 68 games. Even so, Shaw was selected in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in 76th position by the Florida Panthers . As expected, he initially returned to the LHJMQ, but was handed over to the Remparts de Québec by the Screaming Eagles in January 2012 , with Raphaël Corriveau and Simon Desmarais moving to Cape Breton in return . In the following season 2012/13 Shaw achieved for the first time a points average of over 1.0 per game (68 in 67) and led the Remparts with a plus / minus statistics of +30. At the same time, he retired from the LHJMQ due to old age, so that the Florida Panthers equipped him with an entry-level contract in April 2013 .
Florida, Anaheim and Montréal
As expected, Shaw began the 2013-14 season with the San Antonio Rampage in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Panthers' farm team . After just seven games, however, he was initially sent to the third-class ECHL to the Cincinnati Cyclones , where he subsequently scored 18 points in 20 games and was then called back to the Rampage in the AHL. There Shaw ended the season with 47 appearances and eight scorer points before he returned to Cincinnati for another 24 playoff appearances and failed with the team in the finals of the Kelly Cup at the Alaska Aces . After he was returned to the Rampage in preparation for the 2014/15 season, he spent a full season in San Antonio, scoring 13 goals and twelve assists.
He also began the 2015/16 season as the attacker in the AHL, with the Panthers' new farm team, the Portland Pirates . However, he was called up for the first time in the NHL squad of the Panthers at the end of October and made his debut in the National Hockey League on October 30, 2015 against the Boston Bruins . He then returned to the AHL by the end of November, before he established himself in the Panthers' squad and was henceforth regularly used. After playing exclusively in the AHL again at the beginning of the 2016/17 season , he was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks in mid-November 2016 in exchange for Michael Sgarbossa . There the attacker was regularly in the NHL line-up until he was sent to the AHL via the waiver in January 2018 . He was signed by the Canadiens de Montréal , which, however, provided him with no further contract at the end of the 2017/18 season
Via the AHL to Winnipeg
So the Canadian was looking for a new employer from July 2018. He found this in October 2018 in the San Diego Gulls from the AHL, for which he was briefly active during his engagement in Anaheim. A month later, Shaw received a new NHL contract from the Winnipeg Jets , which was also valid for the AHL and was dated until the end of the season in summer 2019. This was then extended for another year.
