In Buffalo he was not used and then moved to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1997 in the Canadian Football League (CFL). In 1998 he accepted the offer to move to Europe in the NFL Europe to get match practice. At the Amsterdam Admirals he then met the player with whom he should celebrate the greatest successes, quarterback Kurt Warner . In the same year he went to the St. Louis Rams with Warner .

Due to injury, Nütten initially had little time in St. Louis . In the 1999 season, however, Nütten was on the field as a starter for almost the entire season. In the play-offs , the Rams with Warner and Nütten under their coach Dick Vermeil were able to move into the Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta and beat the Tennessee Titans 23:16. Warner, who was protected by Nütten on his passing plays, was voted Most Valuable Player of the Game (MVP) . In the 2001 season , the Rams moved into Super Bowl XXXVI against the New England Patriots and lost in New Orleans at 17:20.

Injuries made Nütten more and more troublesome and reduced his time with the Rams. In 2005 he moved to the New York Jets , but ended his career there due to an injury, without being used there.
