Justin Pogge (born April 22, 1986 in Fort McMurray , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who is currently under contract with the Kölner Haien in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

Career

Justin Pogge began his career as a hockey player with the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League , for which he played for two years from 2003 to 2005. During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the third round as the 90th player of the Toronto Maple Leafs . First he was from the middle of the 2004/05 season, but for the league rivals of the Cougars, the Calgary Hitmen , on the ice. In the 2005/06 season Pogge impressed with outstanding performance with the Calgary Hitmen, when he achieved a goal average of 1.72 and eleven shutouts in 54 games of the main round . In the playoffs, however, he did not come with the team beyond the second round. After the end of this season, the goalkeeper was honored with numerous individual awards; Among other things, he was named CHL goalkeeper of the year and won the Del Wilson Trophy as best goalkeeper of the year in the WHL and the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as most valuable player of the year.

Before the 2006/07 season Pogge was given preference over Tuukka Rask , which the Leafs gave to the Boston Bruins , and was included in the squad of the Toronto Marlies from the American Hockey League , the farm team of the Maple Leafs. In the 2008/09 season , the goalie made his debut in the National Hockey League when he played seven games for the Toronto Maple Leafs . Against strong competition consisting of the trio Vesa Toskala , Curtis Joseph and Martin Gerber , he was never able to prevail and spent most of the time on the farm team with the Toronto Marlies, where Pogge was the goalkeeper. On August 10, 2009, the Canadian was given to the Anaheim Ducks , which used him in the farm team at the Bakersfield Condors and San Antonio Rampage . In March 2010, the Californians gave him to the Carolina Hurricanes to sign defense attorney Aaron Ward . The goalkeeper spent the 2010/11 season on the Hurricanes farm team at the Charlotte Checkers .

On July 27, 2011, Pogge received a one-year two-way contract with the Phoenix Coyotes . The jump to Europe followed in the summer of 2012, where he received a contract with Ritten Sport from the Italian A1 series . He then played for BIK Karlskoga in the 2nd Swedish ice hockey league before moving to the Swedish first division club Färjestad BK in the summer of 2014 . After two years he left Färjestad after the end of the 2015/16 season and in May 2016 signed a contract with HC Slovan Bratislava , a Slovak club that takes part in the game operations of the Continental Hockey League . He then returned to Sweden, where at the end of December 2019 he was signed by the Swedish second division team Södertälje SK through Eisbären Berlin from the ( German Ice Hockey League ). Here he formed a goalkeeper duo with Sebastian Dahm for the rest of the season - came to 17 missions for the capital club with a catch rate of more than 91 percent and a shutout . For the following season he moved to the DEL league competitor Kölner Haie .

International

Justin Pogge won the gold medal with the Canadian national team at the U20 World Junior Championship in 2006 and was named both best goalkeeper and most valuable player of the tournament. In the same year, the goalkeeper reached second place with the Canadian selection at the Spengler Cup in Davos .
