Career
Colby Genoway was initially active from 1999 to 2001 for the Winkler Flyers in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League . He then studied for three years at the University of North Dakota and played for their ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . After completing his university career , the undrafted right-handed shooter was signed by the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League towards the end of the 2004/05 season . In the following season 2005/06 Genoway made his breakthrough in the American Hockey League, when he scored 26 goals and 35 assists in 77 regular season games. In July 2006, the Canadian was signed by the Anaheim Ducks , for which he never appeared and instead began the 2006/07 season in the AHL farm team with the Portland Pirates . In January 2007 he was transferred to the Vancouver Canucks , for whose farm team Manitoba Moose he was also active in the following season. The 2008/09 season he spent mainly with the Swedish second division team Mora IK , but also completed some missions as a loan player with Ilves Tampere from the Finnish SM-liiga . The following season Genoway spent both with Ilves and the Czech first division club HC Pardubice .
For the 2010/11 season he was signed by HC Lugano . In the summer of 2011, the right-firing winger signed a three-year contract with Lausanne HC from the National League B. Already in his first season in the Vaudois dress, the Canadian advanced to a leading player within the team. For the 2012/13 season he was appointed assistant captain of the Lausanne, which he led through the finals with strong performances. After Genoway had completed the qualification with 66 points in 39 games, he scored 24 points in the playoffs in eleven games for Lausanne HC, with which he won the 2013 National League B championship. Especially in the final series against EHC Olten , Genoway played a key role in the Lausanne win when he was involved in four goals in the last encounter of the series. With the Vaudois, he was then promoted to the National League A after they had defeated the SCL Tigers in the league qualification .
After the 2014/15 season, in which he had only played 21 games due to various injuries, he left the LHC and was signed by the KHL Medveščak Zagreb from the Continental Hockey League . He played there until February 2016 before returning to Switzerland. He played nine games for Friborg-Gottéron in the 2015/16 season. The following season he joined Medveščak Zagreb again.
In January 2017 Genoway left Zagreb again for NLA and switched to EHC Kloten . He joined the Kölner Haien in the German Ice Hockey League via HC Slovan Bratislava during the 2018 summer break .
