Moritz Müller (born November 19, 1986 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German ice hockey player who has been playing in the German Ice Hockey League for the Kölner Haie since 2004 .

Career

In his youth, Müller played for several clubs, including the Kassel Huskies and the Füchsen Weißwasser . In 2002, the defender moved to the youth department of the Kölner Haie , where he played for the DNL team. From the 2003/04 season , the left-handed shooter received repeated missions for the DEL team of the Haie, but was initially still mainly used in the DNL. From the following season, Müller established himself as a striker in the fourth row at the KEC and only played sporadically with a sponsorship license with cooperation partner Moskitos Essen in the 2nd Bundesliga . In the 2006/07 season , the attacker was on the ice for the first time exclusively in the DEL, but injured his shoulder during an international match in February 2007. Müller was out for the rest of the preliminary round, but was able to participate in the play-offs again. In the 2006/07 season , the trained striker was first used by coach Doug Mason on the defensive of the Haie. Since the following season , the Frankfurt native has been one of the regular players at the KEC. The Haie extended his contract initially to 2010 and later to 2013, 2016 and 2019. After the departure of the previous captain John Tripp from the KEC squad, Moritz Müller took over the position of captain from the 2015/16 season . At the beginning of the 2016/17 season , the former NHL defender and national player Christian Ehrhoff moved to the Haien and took over the captaincy, whereby Müller became his assistant. After the 2017/18 season Erhoff ended his career and Müller was appointed captain of the team again. In addition, his expiring contract was extended until 2022.

In the 2007/08, 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons , Müller was runner-up with the Haien, in 2008 under Doug Mason and in 2013 and 2014 under former national coach Uwe Krupp .

International

For a German national team, Müller played his first tournament at the 2004 U18 World Cup . In 2005 and 2006 he took part in the Junior World Championships for his country, and in the 2006 championship he was top scorer of the 1st division tournament. He made his debut in the senior national team at the 2007 Skoda Cup in Basel , where he was injured in the second game. Müller participated with the German national team in the Deutschland Cup 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 as well as the World Championships in 2009 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2016 , 2017 , 2018 , 2019 . Müller crowned his international career by participating in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , where the DEB selection won the silver medal.
