Henry Martens (born May 24, 1987 in Engelskirchen ) is a German ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Bayreuth Tigers from the DEL2 since July 2018 .

Career

Henry Martens began with ice hockey in the youth of the Kölner Haie , where he ran through all junior teams and was first used in the KEC DNL team in the 2002/03 season . In the following years, the winger was one of the best players and scorers there, so that he received a professional contract with the Haien for the 2005/06 season and was used for the first time in the German Ice Hockey League . Most of the year, however, Martens played with a production license for the Ratinger Ice Aliens in the major league . The left-wing shooter also began the following season in Ratingen, but after the financial outage of the Ice Aliens, he switched to league rivals Heilbronner Falken and continued to play sporadically in the DEL.

For the 2007/08 season , Henry Martens signed a contract with the Iserlohn Roosters , where he was regularly used in the DEL alongside his former teammate Matthias Potthoff , with whom he had already played at the Cologne Young Sharks. Also in the 2008/09 season he was in the squad of the Sauerland and should mainly be used in the newly formed fourth series of attacks. However, after Martens regularly played in the third storm formation, he injured his shoulder on December 26, 2008 in a game against the Kölner Haie so badly that the season was over for him. He received no new contract offer from the Roosters after the season. At the beginning of June 2009 Martens signed a one-year contract with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers .

Between 2010 and 2012 Martens was under contract with the Dresdner Eislöwen from the 2nd Bundesliga and also received a support license for the Iserlohn Roosters before he moved to Düsseldorfer EG in May 2012 . For the 2013 season he moved to the Bietigheim Steelers in the DEL2 . Between 2014 and 2016 he played for the newly promoted DEL2 Löwen Frankfurt .

From 2016 to 2018 Martens was under contract with the Heilbronner Falken . For the 2018/19 season he signed a one-year contract with the Bayreuth Tigers .

International

At the U18 World Cup in 2005 , Henry Martens played for the first time for a selection of the German Ice Hockey Federation , with which he managed to stay in the league. At the U20 World Cup in 2007 he just missed relegation with the German team.
