Jason Bast (born June 2, 1989 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Adler Mannheim in the German Ice Hockey League since 2020 .
Career
Between 2005 and 2010 Bast completed more than 300 games for the Moose Jaw Warriors from the Western Hockey League (WHL), then enrolled at St. Francis Xavier University and played for the college's ice hockey team, the "X-Men". There he was known by the nickname "jap nasty".
In March 2014, he signed a contract with the Idaho Steelheads , a team from the US state of Idaho that plays in the ECHL . Especially in the following season, which Bast also started with the Steelheads, he made people sit up and take notice and scored 31 goals and 23 assists in 54 ECHL appearances. In the same season he also played briefly for two teams from the American Hockey League (AHL), the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the Charlotte Checkers .
For the 2015/16 season he ventured to Europe and accepted an offer from EHC Visp from the Swiss National League B (NLB). At the beginning of December there was a separation, Bast moved on to Slovakia, where he was runner- up with HC Banska Bystrica .
At the end of May 2016, the Fischtown Pinguins , then still a German second division team, announced Bast's commitment to the 2016/17 season. At the end of June, the club from Bremerhaven was awarded a license for the top division in Germany, the DEL . He reached the DEL championship round with Bremerhaven in 2017 and 2018, and left the team after the end of the 2017/18 season.
In April 2018, the Nürnberg Ice Tigers announced Bast's commitment. With over 40 scored points, he played in the Middle Franconia his most successful DEL -Season and joined the season 2019/20 for Liga rivals Cologne Sharks .
At the end of March 2020, Adler Mannheim announced Bast's commitment.
