from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James Orlando Sheppard (born August 29, 1890 - February 1, 1973 ) was an American politician . Between 1931 and 1935 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Carolina .

James Sheppard was the sixth child of Governor John Calhoun Sheppard (1850-1931) and his wife Helen Wallace. Since his parents married in 1879, he must have been born in the following years. However, the sources about him are very poor. At Find A Grave there is a James O. Sheppard, between August 29, 1890, the February 1, 1973 lived. That could match the lieutenant governor's life dates and burial place in South Carolina, but is not mentioned and remains a speculation.

Sheppard was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1930 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina alongside Ibra Charles Blackwood . He held this office between January 20, 1931 and January 15, 1935. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, his track is lost again.
