André Bauer

Rudolph Andreas "André" Bauer (born March 20, 1969 in Charleston , South Carolina ) is an American politician . Between 2003 and 2011 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Carolina.

Career

André Bauer attended Irmo High School and then studied at the University of South Carolina . Then he worked as a private businessman. Among other things, he sold sports goods. He also worked temporarily in the real estate industry. He also became a lieutenant colonel in the Civil Air Patrol . He still holds this rank today. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1997 and 2001 he was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, and from 2001 to 2003 he was a member of the State Senate . He was a member of several committees.

In 2002, Bauer was elected Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina alongside Mark Sanford . He held this office after a re-election between 2003 and 2011. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In the run-up to the 2008 presidential election, he supported Mike Huckabee, who was defeated in the primary elections . 2009 seemed to be a chance for Bauer to move up to governor when there was a possibility of governor Mark Sanford's impeachment over an extramarital affair. In the end, however, there was no impeachment proceedings and Bauer remained vice governor. In 2010 he ran unsuccessfully in his party's gubernatorial primaries. Two years later, he also failed in the congressional primaries.

In January 2010, it hit the headlines negatively when he compared schoolchildren on public meals to stray animals that were not supposed to be fed. Bauer had also previously attracted attention due to several traffic offenses. In May 2006 he was injured in the crash of a small airplane that he was piloting.
