Nick Theodore

Nick Andrew Theodore (born March 2, 1928 in Greenville , South Carolina ) is a former American politician . Between 1987 and 1995 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Carolina.

Career

Nick Theodore studied first at the University of Georgia in Athens and then until 1952 at Furman University in Greenville. He worked full-time as a private businessman. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1963 and 1966 and again from 1970 to 1978 he was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives ; in 1967 and 1968 and from 1981 to 1986 he was a member of the State Senate . In 1978 he ran unsuccessfully for the United States House of Representatives .

In 1986, Theodore was elected Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina. He held this office after re-election between 1987 and 1995. He was Deputy Republican Governor Carroll A. Campbell and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1994 he unsuccessfully applied for the post of governor. Four years later he tried unsuccessfully to regain his old post as lieutenant governor. Between 2002 and 2004, Theodore was a member of the South Carolina Public Service Commission .
