Gabriel Cannon

Gabriel Cannon (born August 25, 1806 in Spartanburg County , South Carolina , † 1893 ) was an American politician . Between 1856 and 1858 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Carolina.

Career

Nothing is known about Gabriel Cannon's youth and schooling. He later worked in trade, as a farmer and as a cotton producer. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . He served intermittently in the South Carolina Senate both before, during, and after the Civil War .

In 1856, Cannon was elected lieutenant governor of his state by the South Carolina General Assembly on the side of Robert Francis Withers Allston . He held this office between December 9, 1856 and December 10, 1858. He was Deputy Governor . After serving as Vice Governor, he was again a member of the State Senate for some time. He died in 1893.
