James Irby

James Henderson Irby (born December 31, 1793February 24, 1860 ) was an American politician . Between 1852 and 1854 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Carolina .

There are few useful sources about James Irby. A short biography of his son William mentions that he was a lawyer and planter . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1852 he was elected lieutenant governor of his state by the South Carolina General Assembly alongside John Lawrence Manning . He held this office between December 9, 1852 and December 11, 1854. He was Deputy Governor . Another son of Irby was US Senator John LM Irby (1854-1900). James Irby died on February 24, 1860 and was buried in Laurens .
