The sources on William Pinckney are very poor. At Find A Grave , a William Coatsworth Pinckney is mentioned, who lived from 1768 to 1830 and in Colleton County was buried in South Carolina. However, it is not clear whether this was Lieutenant Governor William Pinckney. There is also no evidence of a relationship with the well-known Pinckney family, including Charles Pinckney , although such a family connection cannot be ruled out.

The only thing that is certain about William Pinckney is that he lived at least temporarily in South Carolina and was a member of the Democratic Republican Party . In 1820 he was elected lieutenant governor of his state by the South Carolina General Assembly alongside Thomas Bennett . He held this office between December 7, 1820 and December 7, 1822. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, his track is lost again.
