Glenn F. McConnell (born December 11, 1947 in Charleston , South Carolina ) is an American politician . Between 2012 and 2014 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Carolina.

Career

In 1965, Glenn McConnell graduated from high school. He then attended the College of Charleston and then the University of South Carolina , where he studied law until 1972. For some time he worked as a lawyer. Then he gave up this job to devote himself to the family business CSA Galleries . This deals with the trade in memorabilia from the time of the Confederate States . He was also a co-owner of The Wild House LTD .

Politically, McConnell joined the Republican Party . Between 1978 and 1982 he was its district chairman. In 1980, 1984 and 1988 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions , at which Ronald Reagan and later George Bush were nominated as presidential candidates. From 1981 to 2012 he was a member of the South Carolina Senate , of which he was President Pro Tempore in 2012. Following the resignation of Lieutenant Governor Ken Ard , who was charged with financial misconduct, McConnell had to assume the vacated office as President Pro Tempore of the State Senate under the Constitution. He has been doing this since March 13, 2012. He is now Deputy Governor Nikki Haley and formally chairman of the State Senate.

On March 22, 2014, Glenn McConnell was elected President of the College of Charleston in a controversial election . He then declared that he would devote himself to this task in the future and that he would not seek re-election for the post of Vice-Governor in 2014. In addition, he resigned prematurely from lieutenant governor in June 2014 to take up his new office in Charleston.
