Robert Creswell

Robert Creswell (born around 1772 in South Carolina , †  September 11, 1850 in Eutaw , Alabama ) was an American politician . Between 1814 and 1816 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Carolina.

Career

Robert Creswell lived most of his life in the Laurens District , South Carolina. There he practiced as a lawyer in this profession after his admission. Politically, he was initially a member of the Federalist Party . Later he must have switched to the Democratic Republican Party .

In 1798 he was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives. In 1802, his candidacy as a federalist for the United States House of Representatives failed . In 1814 he was elected lieutenant governor of his state by the South Carolina General Assembly at the side of David Rogerson Williams . He held this office between December 10, 1814 and December 5, 1816. He was Deputy Governor . He then held the office of Comptroller General of South Carolina, to which he was elected in 1816. He was later a candidate for appeal judge and president of the Bank of South Carolina . Creswell declined both roles and also retired as a lawyer. He died in Eutaw on September 11, 1850.
