Frederick Nance

Frederick Nance (born August 13, 1770 in Amelia , Amelia County , Colony of Virginia , †  February 10, 1840 in Newberry , South Carolina ) was an American politician . Between 1808 and 1810 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Carolina.

Career

Frederick Nance was born in Virginia and moved to Newberry County , South Carolina at a young age . He was one of the first settlers in the city of Newberry. Before 1800 he was a successful trader. In 1794 he also became a court usher in his new home.

Politically, Nance joined the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . In 1808 he was elected lieutenant governor of South Carolina by the South Carolina General Assembly alongside John Drayton . He held this office between December 10, 1808 and December 8, 1810. He was Deputy Governor . It is unclear whether he was part of the South Carolina Senate . Frederick Nance died in Newberry on February 10, 1840.
