Bob Peeler

Bob Peeler (born January 4, 1952 in Gaffney , South Carolina ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 2003 he was lieutenant governor of the state of South Carolina.

Career

Bob Peeler grew up in Gaffney, where he worked in milk production with his parents and brothers. He graduated from Limestone College in his hometown. He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Within the party he rose to the position of deputy head of state. In 2000 he campaigned for George W. Bush in the presidential primaries, who then won the South Carolina area code thanks to Peeler's help.

In 1994, Peeler was elected lieutenant governor of South Carolina alongside David Beasley . He held this office after a re-election between 1995 and 2003. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Since 1999 he has served under the new Governor Jim Hodges of the Democratic Party . Peeler was the first Republican lieutenant governor since Richard Howell Gleaves' tenure ended in 1876. In 2002, he ran unsuccessfully in his party's gubernatorial primary. In 2003 he was in discussion for a candidacy for the US Senate . But he announced his renunciation of this venture. Today he sits on the board of directors of Clemson University .
