Marcel Noebels (born March 14, 1992 in Tönisvorst ) is a German ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Eisbären Berlin in the German Ice Hockey League since October 2014 .
Career
Marcel Noebels began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of the Krefelder EV , for which he was active until 2006. The center then spent a year with the U16 juniors of the Eisbären Juniors Berlin , before standing on the ice for two seasons for the young eagles Mannheim in the German junior league . With these he became German junior champions in 2008 and 2009 .
For the 2009/10 season Noebels returned to Krefeld, where he played parallel for the U18 juniors in the DNL and for the professional team in the German Ice Hockey League . In his rookie year in the DEL, the junior international scored one goal in 33 games and provided two assists. For the 2010/11 season he moved to the Seattle Thunderbirds from the North American Junior League Western Hockey League . In the 2011 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the fourth round in 118th position by the Philadelphia Flyers .
In July 2011 Noebels signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Flyers. First he moved during the 2011/12 season but within the WHL to the Portland Winterhawks and reached the final series for the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the team in the play-offs . There, however, the Winterhawks failed because of the Edmonton Oil Kings . With 23 scorer points from 22 games, Noebels was the third-best scorer in the WHL play-offs.
The German started the 2012/13 season with the Trenton Titans , a farm team of the Philadelphia Flyers, in the ECHL and was promoted to the Adirondack Phantoms in the American Hockey League after 30 scorer points in 31 games .
On October 13, 2014, his move to the DEL to the Eisbären Berlin was announced. He plays there with the shirt number 92. In September 2016 he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and had to take a break for months. Overall, he developed into a solid 30 point player in Berlin. In the 2016/17 season, when they won a legendary quarter-final series against the favored Adler Mannheim , he scored the decisive goal in Game 6, which lasted over 100 minutes. In the following season 2017/18 , when he reached the play-off finals with the polar bears , Noebels was one of the players with the highest points on his team in this final series. For the 2018/19 season he was invited to the Boston Bruins training camp in September 2018 , but played again for Berlin in the DEL from October 2018. In this season, which did not go according to expectations for the polar bears, he was one of the decisive players in the successful pre-play-offs. He finished the main round of the 2019/20 season as the German DEL player with the highest points and top scorer for his Eisbären Berlin club for the first time.
International
For Germany , Noebels took part in the U18 Junior World Championship 2009 and the U18 Junior B World Championship in 2010 . In the latter, he and his team managed to return directly to the top division. With nine goals and ten assists in five games, he played a decisive role in the success as top scorer, assists and top scorer in Group B.
At the 2013 World Cup , Noebels was appointed to the men's national team for the first time, but remained unpunished in three missions. He then took part in the 2014 and 2016 World Championships before joining the German squad at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . There he won the silver medal with the DEB selection and received the silver laurel leaf on June 7, 2018.
