Constantin Braun (born March 11, 1988 in Lampertheim ) is a German ice hockey player who has been playing in the German Ice Hockey League for the Eisbären Berlin since the 2006/07 season . Originally used as a winger , he was retrained as a defender during the 2008-09 season . His brother Laurin is also a hockey player.
Career
Braun began his ice hockey career in the youth department of Adler Mannheim . He made a name for himself there through good performances and switched to the Eisbären Juniors Berlin in the third-highest German division for the 2004/05 season . However, he was mainly used for the Berlin DNL team and only played one game in the top division.
In the following two years Braun played for three different teams of the Eisbären Berlin , both with the professionals in the DEL and with the juniors in the German junior league and upper league . Furthermore, he came to a total of 40 games in the DEL .
In the 2006 NHL Entry Draft , Constantin Braun was selected by the Los Angeles Kings from the National Hockey League in the sixth round in a total of 164th place. The winger initially stayed in Germany and finally made the final breakthrough with the Eisbären Berlin. The 2007/08 season was one of the most successful of his career to date, as he established himself in the DEL team and won the German championship at the end of the season.
With the polar bears he won the German championship again in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013 and in 2010 the European Trophy for the first time . In October 2009 he received a sponsorship license for the Dresdner Eislöwen , the polar bears' cooperation partner in the 2nd Bundesliga , in order to gain match practice after surviving a shoulder injury. However, he was not used with the ice lions.
On August 2, 2013, Braun announced that he was in a personal crisis and that he was taking a break at this point because he had sought medical treatment. On November 22, 2013 he was back in the polar bear squad for the first time. After another three-month break in autumn 2017, he returned to active gaming on December 1, 2017.
International
In the junior division, Braun initially took part in the U18 World Championships in 2005 and 2006 in the top division. With the German U20 selection , he also played in the top division at the 2007 World Cup , but could not hold the class there, so that he entered the Division I World Cup the following year , where he was immediately promoted again.
In 2010 he got his first appointment to the men's national team , with which he finished fourth at the 2010 World Cup in Germany. He was also part of the German squad at the 2011 , 2014 and 2016 World Championships . In addition, he also played in the Olympic qualification for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi .
