Ryan Connor McKiernan (born July 27, 1989 in White Plains , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Eisbären Berlin in the German Ice Hockey League since 2019 .

Career

Ryan McKiernan made 74 appearances for the Des Moines Buccaneers club from Iowa in the United States Hockey League (USHL) and four more for the New Jersey Hitmen in the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL). For the Voltigeurs de Drummondville from Québec , he played 84 times in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (QMJHL) and was able to win the league championship in 2008/09. As assistant captain of the Titan d'Acadie-Bathurst from New Brunswick , he then played 33 missions.

From 2010 to 2014 he played very successfully for McGill University in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Association (CIS). He helped McGill to the first CIS championship title in university history in 2011 and was honored as the most valuable player of the team in 2013 and 2014. In 160 missions he also scored 41 goals and achieved 76 assists.

For the 2014/15 season he went to Europe and played for the Swedish club AIK in the second class Allsvenskan , with which he also took part in the promotion round Kvalserien .

In 2015 McKiernan was signed by the Carinthian club EC VSV in the EBEL and played there from September 25th. On September 27, 2015, during the warm-up phase before the game against EC Red Bull Salzburg, there was an incident when McKiernan crossed the center line slightly and touched Salzburg goalkeeper Luka Gračnar with his stick. The Department of Player Safety (DOPS) recognized “unsportsmanlike conduct” and “incitement through contact” and imposed a game ban, which is why McKiernan had to sit out on October 2nd against HC Bozen .

On July 4, 2016, he was presented as a new addition to the Vienna Capitals . McKiernan made it to the EBEL final with the Viennese and scored the “Championship Winning Goal” for the Austrian championship . In total, he scored seven goals and 36 assists over the course of the season.

In May 2018 he withdrew his release clause in the contract and signed a contract in the German ice hockey league with the Düsseldorfer EG until 2019. McKiernan scored 6 goals and 25 assists in 51 main round games for DEG in the 2018/19 season. Seven more games, two hits and four assists were added to the play-offs. Then he was committed by the Eisbären Berlin .
