The Liqui Moly GmbH is a Ulmer company specializing in the production of additives , lubricants and motor oils is dedicated.
At the turn of the year 2017/18, the company became part of the Würth Group , which is now the sole owner of Liqui Moly, through the sale of shares by the previous managing partner Ernst Prost .
Foundation phase
The company was founded in 1957 by Hans Henle in Ulm. The patent for the manufacture of molybdenum disulfide formed the basis for the company that produces and sells additives, oils and lubricants. The additive for motor oil based on the liquefied solid lubricant molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) was the first product. MoS 2 improves the lubricating properties of oil. In the last century, the US Air Force used MoS 2 as an additive for the engine oil of its aircraft so that the lubricating film would not tear off in the event of an oil tank hit and a landing was possible.

The product range includes engine and gear oils, fuel and oil additives, car care products, chemical problem solvers, service products and specialty lubricants as well as complete product lines for cars, motorcycles, bicycles, commercial vehicles, boats and garden tools.
production
In 1974 the company moved from the city center to the northern district of Lehr in order to expand . The headquarters with administration, sales, research and development facilities as well as the production facilities for all additives and many fats and pastes are still located there. The engine oils are produced by the subsidiary Meguin Mineraloelwerke in Saarlouis .
distribution
After Ernst Prost became managing partner in 1998, the company realigned itself. In order to counteract the previous dependency on a few large customers, the strategy was changed and sales were converted to several channels (workshop, trade, commercial vehicles, self-service and industry). In addition, internationalization was accelerated. Until then, international business was limited to a few European countries such as Hungary, Austria or Switzerland. It is now exported to 150 countries. Every second liter of motor oil sold is now exported. The export quota has been over 50 percent since 2015. Russia is the largest market. There are separate sales subsidiaries in Portugal, South Africa and the USA.
The company had a partnership with the auto accessories dealer Auto -teile -Unger for 25 years . This ended in November 2011. The partnership has now been resumed.

The company is active in motorsports, ball sports, winter sports and other sports such as: B. the athletics ( EM 2016 ) represented as sponsor.
Liqui Moly is a sponsor of Engstler Motorsport in the TCR touring car series . The Liqui Moly Team Engstler takes part in the TCR Asia, the TCR Middle East and the ADAC TCR Germany 2017. The company has been a partner of the Intact GP motorcycle team in the Moto2 class with riders Xavi Vierge and Marcel Schrötter since 2013 .
The company has sponsored the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League (NHL) since the 2017/2018 season . Since the 2016/2017 season she has been a partner of the Eisbären Berlin in the DEL . Liqui Moly was a shirt sponsor at TSV 1860 Munich from 2002 to 2005 . Since the 2017/18 season , Liqui Moly has been the main and stadium sponsor of Regionalliga Bayern's promoted VfB Eichstätt . The contract runs for three years.
Liqui Moly has been the official sponsor of the Chicago Bulls , a team in the North American professional basketball league, NBA, since September 2018 .
In the 2019 season, Liqui Moly can also be seen in half of all races as a gang sponsor in Formula 1. The company also sponsors the Italian team GRT Yamaha WorldSBK in the 2019 Superbike World Championship.
