Brandon Gormley (born February 18, 1992 in Murray River , Prince Edward Island ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Mora IK in the Svenska Hockeyligan since October 2017 .

Career

Gormley was selected eighth by the Moncton Wildcats in the 2008 LHJMQ Midget Draft , having previously been under contract with the Notre Dame Hounds for two years. In his first season with the Wildcats in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League , the defender got 27 points. In the 2009/10 season he won the Coupe du Président with the Wildcats and thus reached the Memorial Cup . Gormley scored 43 points in 58 games, making it the third best defender of the LHJMQ on points, whereupon he was awarded the Mike Bossy Trophy and appointed to the LHJMQ's Second All-Star team. In the 2010 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in 13th place by the Phoenix Coyotes . In the 2010/11 season he not only played in the LHJMQ, but also played four games at San Antonio Rampage in the American Hockey League .

In January 2012, the Moncton Wildcats transferred him within the Québec Major Junior Hockey League in exchange for Michael Matheson and six draft rights to the Shawinigan Cataractes .

Since fall 2012, Gormley played for the Portland Pirates in the American Hockey League (AHL). At the end of the 2013-14 season, he made his NHL debut.

In September 2015, the defense attorney was given to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for the negotiating rights of Stefan Elliott ( restricted free agent ) . After the end of the season he joined the New Jersey Devils as a free agent , where he was only used in the AHL, with the Albany Devils . In March 2017, the Devils gave it to the Ottawa Senators for no further consideration . These did not extend the defender's contract, which expired in July 2017, so Gormley moved to Europe in October 2017 and joined the Mora IK from Svenska Hockeyligan .

International

In 2008 and 2009 Gormley took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge for Team Canada Atlantic , where he was elected to the All-Star Team in 2009. At the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2009 he won the gold medal with the Canadian selection.
