Mason Evan Raymond (born September 17, 1985 in Cochrane , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 609 games for the Vancouver Canucks , Toronto Maple Leafs , Calgary Flames and Anaheim Ducks in the course of his active career between 2005 and 2018 National Hockey League (NHL) in the position of left winger . Raymond celebrated his greatest successes wearing the national jersey of his home country by winning the Spengler Cup twice and winning bronze medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics .

Career

Mason Raymond began his career as a hockey player with the Camrose Kodiaks, for which he was active from 2003 to 2005 in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and won the AJHL championship, the Rogers Wireless Cup , in the 2004/05 season . Because of his good performance, he was named the most valuable player in the league. Then the attacker was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2005 in the second round as a total of 51 players by the Vancouver Canucks .

First, however, he played for two years for the team of the University of Minnesota Duluth before he made his professional ice hockey debut towards the end of the 2006/07 season for Vancouver's farm team , the Manitoba Moose from the American Hockey League . From the 2007/08 season , the Canadian played for the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League . After being on the ice in 20 games for the Manitoba Moose in the AHL in his rookie year , he played exclusively for the Canucks NHL team between 2008 and 2013. After six years he left Vancouver and signed a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent . His one-year contract was not renewed there, so Raymond joined the Calgary Flames in July 2014 . The last year of his three-year contract was bought out by the Flames in June 2016 (buy-out) , so he joined the Anaheim Ducks as a free agent in July 2016 .

The striker only stayed with the Ducks until the beginning of November. After four games, both parties terminated the existing contract after Raymond had refused to play for the AHL farm team San Diego Gulls for family reasons - his wife had been diagnosed with Lyme disease . He subsequently turned down offers from other AHL clubs as well as from overseas and only took part with Team Canada in the 2016 Spengler Cup , which he won with the national team.

He finally found a new job in Switzerland at SC Bern , where he signed a contract for one season. Then he ended his career.

International

At the international level, Raymond made his debut at the 2010 World Cup and came to three appearances. The Canadians finished in seventh place at the end of the tournament. Eight years later, he was part of the Canadian selection, which - without using NHL players - won the bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics .
